Texas Lonely The Gallaghers of Morning Star Book 2 Texas Heroes edition by Jean Brashear Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews

The second book in the Texas heroes series, was a culmination of what was found out in the first book. The hero, Mitch is a loner and long lost brother of Boone from book one. Mitch has not dealt with his past and why his father and him had such a bad falling out. Then along comes the heroine Perrie and her son who is adorable. Mitch has to take care of her son while Perrie is sick and it so sweet watching the relationship grow between those two. Love how you see Mitch finally open up to Perrie and others in this book and see how he comes to terms with his past. Can't wait for the next book.
I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this trilogy, Texas Secrets (Texas Hearts), but this story goes to another level. Although there is a connection to the first book (this book's Mitch is the older brother of Boone, the main male character in Texas Secrets), the story is set in a completely different setting, and can be read as a stand-alone. There is sex, but no bible-thumping, but the story is about more than that. It is about past abuse, and learning to trust again. Davey, the 5-year-old son of the main female character, Perrie, is a delight. In the middle of pathos and tears, he does something to bring the smile to your face! I started it last night, and finished it this morning, I just had to get to the end. And then I was sad that it was over! But now I have Texas Bad Boy (Texas Hearts) to look forward to [sigh )].
After reading first book in series, I was hooked. The story of Maddie and Boone was very good reading. This second in series started off so good but falterd as the story went on. Mitch was so emotionally traumatized by his family history that he was stuck there. Along comes Perrie and her son and his world is thrown into chaos. Now you add Perrie who won't share her secrets and fears and what you have is dialogue and thoughts going around in circles. Her son Davey is a delight and saving factor of this plot. The author could have done so much more with this story, there even was villan who remained in the back ground not adding tension that would have helped move the story along. I will probably buy book 3, but I hope it is not just more angst and repetitive thoughts.
This is the story of 2 people, each of whom blames them self for errors of the past. Mitch blames himself for his mother's death and Perrie blames herself for choosing the wrong man to marry. The one thing they agree upon is protecting her son, Davey. Once again, Jean Brashear's writing and storytelling ability drew me into caring 2 people who struggled because they were unwilling to hurt each other or the boy they each wanted to protect and love.

I was less able to relate to the characters in this novel, than some of the people in the earlier books of the Texas series. But, as usual, the quality of the writing and storytelling drew me in to want to rush through each page to see what was next.
Loved this character...strong silent type. Characters needed more time to develop their relationship. By the time they finally acknowledge each other romantically, the story ends (at least that's how it felt ). Great connection between Mitch and the Davey. It felt like more went on with them than with the two main characters...not good at all. I'm not sure why this author shies away from writing the romantic sections in her novels. Is this deliberate or is it that she does not have the experience and cannot relate? You cannot write about what you've never experienced...Right? It just seems to be a common denominator...characters have sex, say I love you and the story ends. More could have been done with the storyline. She wasted too much time repeating issues with Perrin and Mitch's family.
I loved this book. This is the third time I've read it but I also listened to the Audible version this time. Little Davey was adorable and I really wanted to find out what happened with the story Perrie was telling her son. This was a story about two people who made bad decisions in their past. But they found each other and forgave themselves so they could move on with their lives. Eric Dove does a wonderful job of reading. He brings the characters to life and made this book even more enjoyable. I'm quickly becoming hooked to Audible books.
Starting with the good points let me say that the storyline was ultimately a good one with lots of potential... And now the not so good.
*** SPOILER ***
The book starts off well. Storyline flows and characters seem to be developing as the chapters progress. Perrie's ex is described as evil, dangerous, scary and capable of the worst. Needless to say the fear is indescribable and this theme carries throughout the book. At 65% into the book there are parts that drag on and then BAM you are rushed through the story and reading the epilogue. No evil ex character was introduced. One night of regretful sex leads to heated conversation and then viola book is over.... Evil ex is in jail and everyone is together. REALLY!! Where's the ending.
So yes, I feel slighted and was waiting for a better end.
Luckily and probably thanks to how well book 1 was written, I am intrigued enough to want to finish the series so yes I will be reading book 3.
Him...kicked out of the family at age 16; bouncing around until an old mountain man takes him in and teaches him the ways of the mountain. He keeps his heart and mind locked up so he will never hurt like he did and never hurt anyone else.
